Email



Pine (Program for Internet News and Email) is one of the most widely used email clients in Unix.  Pine features tools for reading, sending, and managing email messages and was developed by the University of Washington.
 
 
 

  • Starting Pine
    • Log into a Unix machine
    • Bring up a Console from the menu
    • Type pine at the shell prompt
    • Enter your username and password when requested

     
  • Composing Email
    • Press c to compose an email message
    • Enter the email address of the recipient in the "To:" field
    • Type the message
    • To attach a file to the message, move cursor to "Attchmnt:" field, type <Ctrl>t to goto a list of files and select the desired file to attach
    • Type <Ctrl>x to send the message

     
  • Reading Email
    • Press m to return to the main menu
    • Press l to goto a list of collections
    • Press > to view the Central Mail Server folders
    • Press > to view the messages in INBOX
    • Viewing Attachments: Press > to view attachment information and save the attachment to the home directory by typing s and pressing <Enter> to save the file
