Introduction

This course provides an introduction to scientific computing for students without previous quantitative and computing training. Students will learn elements of a Unix operating system, the basics of a procedural language (such as C) and a scripting language (such as Perl), and aspects of a high-level mathematical program such as Maple.  These computing skills will be developed as students learn essential features of scientific computing as implemented in the earth and life sciences.
